Inovative Business Logic System for the School

Reference number
Coordinator FÖRENINGEN SAMBRUK - Sambruk
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 800 000
Project duration October 2014 - July 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project objective was to create an open basic school administrative platform as the base for the school´s future digitization (to increase the digitization rate and stimulate development from unorthodox developers). Our aim was to give the school direct and full control over their IT infrastructure with: Transparency, Modularity, Mobility, Cloud-based services. All objectives have been met. IVIS is a fully functional platform with two modules (´School Transport Application´ and ´Incident handling´) and will be used in trial operation during the Autumn 2016.

Expected results and effects

According to the overall objectives stated in the application we wish to move costs from supplier-focused business models - to user-driven innovation, flexibility and several new suppliers. We want to make it easier for small players to contribute to the school´s digitization. We see an achievement by presently three commercial operators interested in contributing with new services. We have set up test systems where students and staff can develop. There are schools interested in our services. We also received interest in the model from other parts of the public sector - such as eHealth.

Planned approach and implementation

The project´s steering committee consisted of Sambruk, imCode and rep for the school. We have developed in close collaboration with the school´s experts. In our reference group are key persons, including rep from SALAR. Work methodology was agile development. The outcome of all technical development is open source and open documentation. The information layers have been analyzed by Owen Ericsson (lecturer, UU), security by Crisp and the potential commercial ecosystem by Björn Lundell (assistant professor, HIS). A number of information campaigns on the model have been implemented.
