Innovation to reduce firefighters occupational

Reference number
Coordinator HUMANICE AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 250 000
Project duration December 2015 - August 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project´s goal was the completion of the prototype and development to commercialize products that reduce the risk of fire fighters to suffer from occupational diseases. The aim of the prototype was to obtain information to take the final decision on commercialization. These goals and objectives are considered clearly met and they would not have been possible in such a short time without support from Vinnova. The established network of contacts with customers and distributors has inspired to related innovations.

Expected results and effects

The project was designed as a continuation of the feasibility study which formed the basis for the decision to finalize the prototype. When the study established requirements for durability and characteristics of the innovation, the current project was focused on adjustments and sharp field tests during rescue operations. Since these adjustments, the prototype is fully usable at sharp rescue operations. The innovators have spent more development time than expected but the product is finally ready for serial production. In light of this, the result is considered satisfying.

Planned approach and implementation

The project started as planned with producing prototypes. This was done as expected. Parallel to production of prototypes, field tests were made. Thanks to the spread, interest from potential costumers has been growing during this phase of the innovation project. There are certainly buyers of the product to the given price (see the previously communicated estimates and business model). The implementation must be considered done when the innovation now is ready to be commercialized.
