The outcome of the project was to work with open innovation through competitions and that this will spread both to other organizations and over industry boundaries. In addition to this the importance is that innovation competitions can be spread to users and innovators who could contribute with solutions, new concepts, products and services. We also wanted to show the importance of a resource-efficient manner to search for external solutions as a source of innovation, which we also achieved.

Approach and implementation

innovation competition was conducted at Lund University. Involved was some 50 students from diverse institutions. The platform is web based and open which allowed a non-physical participation in the competition, we also regulated all the IP easily through this. The innovation process was sequentially divided into four steps. Like a funnel, where the starting point began with a wide perspective that ultimately led down to a few qualitative and tested solutions ready to be used.
