Project duration November 2021 - May 2023
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The innovation competition InfraLIGHTer Awards has developed sustainable alternatives to today´s established building materials and methods. The competition contributions have contributed to solutions that improve the construction industry´s endeavor to use building and construction materials with lower weight. Submitted competition entries with lightweight construction for pedestrian and bicycle bridges promote climate neutrality via resource-efficient bridge constructions and material optimization.

Expected results and effects

In the innovation competition, innovative lightweight pedestrian and bicycle bridges were sought which enable rational construction in a factory as well as fast transport and assembly with minimal disruption to traffic, the environment and existing infrastructure. The winning entry BIFROST met all set eligibility requirements. The competition entries contribute to the development and dissemination of resource-efficient solutions. This improves the construction industry´s opportunities to both reduce energy and material use with the help of lightweight constructions.

Planned approach and implementation

InfraLIGHTer Awards was a successful collaboration between LIGHTer and InfraSweden. Finding a concrete project to collaborate on was the basis for the synergy effects between the programs. The innovation competition had an unusually ambitious design of the competition challenge in that LIGHTer financed a sub-project to mobilize Swedish industrial players to develop lightweight solutions for infrastructure. The competition challenge was clearly specified to find innovations close to implementation. The work process has been labor intensive, fun and successful.
