Purpose and goal

Today it is difficult to buy or rent an apartment first-hand, which means that subletting is the only alternative that remains to find a home. Subletting is governed by prejudice that favor the norm and minorities have it more difficult to find a home. The project addresses the gender equality challenges 10 (reduced inequality) according to agenda 2030, with the goal of creating an equal subletting market when it come to gender and origin. The purpose is to understand which parameters that influence trust capital and include them in a mobile app.

Expected results and effects

Mustard will change how the subletting market looks today and break the uncertainty that exists on today´s platforms such as Blocket, Samtrygg and Qasa which benefit from being an intermediary when the trust between the landlord and the tenant is lacking. Mustard offers an option that builds trust capital for tenants and landlords. This will make it easier for minorities to find a subletting residence and for landlords to find the right tenants without letting prejudice control the selection.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was divided into four parts: 1. Data collection through qualitative interviews with minorities about their challenges and experiences from the subletting market in Stockholm and quantitative data was collected via advertising sites such as Blocket.se through fictitious advertisements from tenants and from housing groups on Facebook. 2. Collected data were analyzed and parameters that create trust capital were identified and matched to the desired functions. 3. Design of mobile app has been created and clickable prototype developed. 4. Backend programming has begun.
