Improving loudspeaker efficiency using nonlinear control

Reference number
Coordinator Actiwave AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 669 310
Project duration July 2014 - July 2015
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The support from Vinnova was suspended ahead of plan when Actiwave sold the department to a large international cooperation. The project was one of the project bringing Actiwave to the attention of the buyer. Due to the acquisition the project with Vinnova was not completed, but the new owner intends to continue development.

Expected long term effects

The partial goal of building modified 1´ speakers to prove the concept of power savings was successfully completed. The additional value of selling these speaker as a stand-alone product was not achieved but they did serve the primary goal of attracting the attention of the market leaders in micro speaker manufacturing. At the time Vinnova ended the involvement in the project there was good hope of successfully completing the project in the new organization.

Approach and implementation

The project was delayed since it had to be put aside a few months when Actiwave got the first big customer projects and all recruiting could not be done at the rate to keep up with the need. Thanks to the understanding and support from Vinnova, the project could restart as soon as the recruitment of new team members cached up. Apart from this and some minor changes, eg measurements taking longer than estimated and implementation being a bit quicker, the time plan was followed.
