Implementing Svensk Kolinlagring in the food system

Purpose and goal

Svensk Kolinlagring builds a system solution to limit climate change, increase soil content and fertility, preserve and create biological diversity and ecosystem services in Swedish agricultural land, improve harvests and profitability in Swedish agriculture, as well as climate-safe and increase food safety. Through our Programme 2.0 (business model, framework and platform) we enable different actors to actively drive transformation to an agroecological food system, where agriculture goes from a carbon source to a carbon sink.

Expected effects and result

- Programme 2.0 (business model, framework, platform) are functional and ready for scale-up after launch in fall 2025. - Queue to all packages before the launch of Programme 2.0. - Svensk Kolinlagring is the solution owner and manager of results and trust. - Insurance companies, banks, landowners and the public sector are now involved, which produces effects at the system level: policy is influenced in an agroecological direction, agriculture becomes a carbon sink and contributes to Sweden´s climate goals, and at the same time more resilient, which contributes to a secure food supply.

Planned approach and implementation

Five work packages: WP LÄRA: Focus on learning through co-creation of knowledge. We advise the farms, conduct workshops and seminars, develop visions for the future food system and policy that take us there. WP MÄTA: Data collection for measurement, reporting and verification of the program for development of Programme 2.0. WP TESTA: Testing our prototype in a real environment. The prototype is generalized to suit more actors, both farmers and investors. WP LEDA forms the framework for stage 3 and as a results Svensk Kolinlagring will stand on its own two feet, ready for scaling.
