Purpose and goal

Hydrogen is fundamental in the transition to a fossil-free society and sustainable solutions for the production, storage and distribution of hydrogen are crucial. There are materials that have proven to be suitable and more cost-effective for this purpose, but since no filler material for welding these is readily available, they are not used today. The project wants to change that. The project shall find a composition of a suitable filler material and show the potential of this.

Expected effects and result

The project aims to remove obstacles to the implementation of more sustainable materials and designs for hydrogen applications. The project will evaluate already developed alloys that, despite their potential, are not available on the market. By using matching filler materials for high-strength nitrogen-alloyed materials, more cost-effective and sustainable solutions for the production, distribution and storage of hydrogen can be designed and produced.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will examine available test data as well as requirements in applicable standards and compare suitable selected filler materials. A promising material will be selected for manufacturing and further testing. Within the project, a case study will be carried out to show the potential of the selected filler material. The project will also plan for a full-scale project where more extensive testing in a hydrogen environment will be included.
