Important results from the project

The project has delivered a comprehensive baseline, identified key needs across the hydrogen value chain, and defined priority areas for a future excellence cluster with potential for global leadership by 2035. Key research topics include materials and safety, alongside societal benefits where Sweden can lead hydrogen utilisation within industry, transport, energy, and resilience. The project has strengthened networks, collaboration, and highlighted the value of coordinated innovation support.

Expected long term effects

In the long term, the cluster will help establish Sweden as a global leader in integrated hydrogen systems, strengthening industrial competitiveness, self-sufficiency, and energy system resilience. It will enable deep emission reductions, export of sustainable technologies and solutions, and support positive societal development through capacity building and R&D&I along and across hydrogen component and implementation value chains.

Approach and implementation

The approach of open workshops, expert group discussions, interviews, and data analysis across hydrogen value chains proved effective for building a robust overall picture. The activities enabled both breadth and depth, though clearer early guidance on the upcoming call could have improved focus. The workshop with 300 participants at the national Hydrogen Conference was valuable for alignment and cluster goal development.
