Important results from the project
The goal was to lay the foundation for a project that demonstrates the logic and requirements on future (1) ERP systems and (2) a work organization that enables flexible production and an employee-oriented view of work performance in relation to the company´s need for delivery and available resources. The consortium consisted of SMEs, consultants, ERP system companies and researchers. A continuation of the project is not possible due to difficulties in allocating time from already limited development resources, and the timing not being aligned with the R&D planning of the firms.
Expected long term effects
The project has included work to clarify the vision and to establish a project plan to develop concepts that describe the flexible workplace of the future and the requirements that it sets for future ERP systems. Participating companies have gained an increased understanding of the future of work organization (e.g. planning functions) in relation to advanced system support. As a consequence, participating companies have also come to higher insights about what the ERP systems of the future may enable, affect and contain.
Approach and implementation
The project began with interviews with participating companies about their experiences and needs related to the project´s theme. Four workshops in different constellations were organized to concretize the project plan, with all participants actively participating in the work with high commitment. The approach to start with the companies´ needs and then exploring the requirements of ERP systems of the future was positively challenging. In doing so, the project provided a good understanding SME needs related to advanced system support as a step towards increased digitization.
