HiFORS - Functional High Temperature Composite Demonstrator for Future Engine Systems

Reference number
Coordinator GKN Aerospace Sweden AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 9 999 901
Project duration November 2025 - November 2028
Status Ongoing
Venture NFFP - Demo
Call NFFP-Demo: National Aeronautics Research Program´s demonstrator call

Purpose and goal

In the project, GKN, LTU, Grafren and RISE will aim to understand the complex chemistries, demonstrate and validate suitable processes for the manufacturing of high temperature (HT) composites with EMI shielding capabilities that will be a key enabler for future composite design at GKN. The partners will also jointly expand the knowledge about the processing and multifunctional capabilities of these materials, which further strengthens the capabilities of innovative new design solutions.

Expected effects and result

Demonstrating EMI shielded, HT composites for aero-engine applications through an all Swedish consortium is beneficial for the Swedish defense industry and contributes to a resilient and robust aerospace ecosystem which is in line with the requirements and objectives of the NFFP program. The lessons learnt from the manufacture of the demonstrator planned within the project can be potential also used in the manufacturing of other similar HT composite structures that may require EMI shielding.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is planned and subdivided into five work packages. Each work package is has associated milestones and deliverables as described in the project proposal document, this will be also reported to Vinnova during the periodic reporting process. The project will be cooridnated by GKN and the activities will be monitored to ensure that time and budget considerations are proceeding as planned in the application.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
