Important results from the project

The project has identified that heat treatment of AM-components is a highly prioritized area for both OEM and subcontractors. For instance, how to optimize heat treatment of EBM Ti6Al4V-components after HIP is of clear interest. The project has also etablished a important contacts to enable a continuation project based on developing a suitable heat treatment process for AM components, such as for of Ti6Al4V. The network includes OEMs, powder manufacturers, subcontractors and heat processors.

Expected long term effects

The work done within the project has identified clear needs that Härdservice AB can fill within the areaspace supply chain. Additionally, Härdservice has clarified what they can offer in terms of heat treatment of AM-components. The newfound knowledge as well as the network created during the course of this project, has provided a good foundation for further research in heat treatment of AM-components.

Approach and implementation

This work has been based on interviews with key-actors in OEM and subcontractors within aerospace industry. These has explicitly identified the need for external heat treatment service for additively manufactured components. Literature review within this area has also highlighted the importance of further developing competence as it is in its infancy today. Further development is required achieve a robust heat treatment process for AM-manufactured components.
