The goal is to make access to samples for research more efficient and thus to exploit the full potential of SIB and to increase patients´ participation and influence in medical research.

Expected effects and result

The expected result of implemented improvements linked to the collection and retrieval of blood and fluid samples for research is a more efficient and cohesive process. The hope is that it will contribute to increased harmonization and quality within Biobank Sweden, which will facilitate research on biobank samples. The result of increasing patients´ participation and knowledge about biobanks is expected to lead to an increased influence in research and development of health care as a prerequisite for usability, relevance and equality within the country.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is divided into work packages with a focus on different areas of improvement; 1) IT adaptations for research-adapted parameters when collecting samples, 2) IT development to facilitate the selection of research samples and make sample collections visible, 3) implementation of common legal interpretation for sharing sample data, and 4) development of a training module on biobanking for patients. The project as a whole will be led by an overall project manager and a communicator will be associated with the project.
