Important results from the project

GU Ventures incubator is top-ranked and conducts business and organizational development of new innovative companies based on research results and innovative ideas from students, entrepreneurs and industry in our ecosystem. Out of 500 new ideas, 60 have been selected for support. They raised over SEK 2 billion, employed 160 people/year, of which 38% are female, and had a turnover of SEK 104 million during the period. We work for better sustainability and to achieve a more balanced equality.

Expected long term effects

On top of our agenda is to contribute together with our innovative startups to the creation of growth companies driven by making a difference for people and environment and that can achieve positive impact. The goal is to offer the support required in early phases for the companies to develop to their full potential in a global arena and contribute to sustainable development in the long term. At the same time, founders, teams and boards of these companies are trained to expand internationally.

Approach and implementation

The incubator project was developed by GU Ventures staff and consultants, together with the extensive network that we have built. The development was an iterative process and updated with sustainability elements by spring 2023. All activities were aimed at the companies and followed the plan. It was financed, in addition to Vinnova´s funds, with funds from, among others, Västra Götalandsregionen, the University of Gothenburg, and the Government´s idea bank funds for innovation support measures.
