Important results from the project

The project has achieved its goals with a system ready to be introduced to the market, including a product that after 5 loops has less climate impact than a paper bag. An efficient washing process, traceability via QR codes and RFID and an optimized logistics flow have been implemented. Tests show high return rates and good acceptance of the loop fee and deposit fee. Consumers appreciate the product. A loyalty effect has been shown; customers using Circular bags shop more often than average.

Expected long term effects

The project enables a more sustainable use of resources by replacing single-use packaging with a reusable alternative, reducing waste and climate impact. The traceability technology developed can also be adapted and used for other circular services such as the collection of deposit and other primary packaging. Test results show that consumers are demanding the service, which may drive more actors to implement similar systems that eventually promote a circular economy.

Approach and implementation

Through workshops, meetings and transparent collaboration between project partners in the different work packages, we set goals, planned, and conducted several tests. The results of the tests were continuously analyzed both through qualitative and quantitative methods towards consumers and employees of the project partners. The results provided the project with insights to improve processes and further develop the different system parts continuously during the ongoing tests.
