Important results from the project
The purpose is fulfilled: to develop and evaluate a prototype of the Global Idea Bank (GIB) - an idea bank and matching system for degree projects focused on global sustainability goals. Evaluations showed that an extra level was needed in the system between individual projects and the global idea bank, a national idea bank. We have evaluated with experts, researchers, companies and universities in Sweden, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Argentina, Rwanda, Ethiopia and Bangladesh. There is great interest in GIB and an important need to fill.
Expected long term effects
The aim was to develop a prototype and evaluate it, which was done. In this process we discovered that several dimensions need to be added: a) A national idea bank, since different countries have different priorities regarding the sustainability goals and governments want an overview projects in the country; b) Inclusion of the public would provide opportunities for citizen science; c) Companies are interested in the sustainability goals and collaboration with students also within other frameworks. There is a great interest in the global idea bank in Sweden and internationally.
Approach and implementation
The project is based on research on idea matching, supervision processes and academic culture. Ideas are matched within the Global Sustainability Goals. The key is to differentiate between ideas and matching "for work", ie the workload supervisors are assigned to do as part of their work and open ideas for anyone. Students get ideas not only from their own supervisors but from all over the world. The development has been conducted using a design science approach. The concept is new, innovative and in demand. Additions could be: National Idea Bank, Citizenscience and Community driven R&D.
