Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 500 000
Project duration August 2026 - June 2027
Status Ongoing
Venture Impact Innovation Metals & Minerals - Program-specific efforts Vinnova
Call Impact Innovation: Resilient metals and minerals supply for strengthened preparedness

Purpose and goal

GEORGE will strengthen the resilience of the Swedish foundry ecosystem by mapping vulnerabilities and critical dependencies in areas such as material supply, energy, production and regulations. The project will also evaluate appropriate methods for risk analysis and decision support, and develop a prioritized innovation roadmap for future development efforts.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to provide a prioritized vulnerability map, a recommended framework for risk analysis and decision support, and an innovation roadmap with prioritized research and development tracks. The results will provide industry and decision-makers with a better basis for prioritizing measures and strengthening the foundries´ ability to maintain production under disrupted conditions.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is implemented in three interconnected work packages. First, vulnerabilities and critical dependencies in the foundry value chain are mapped through interviews, workshops and analysis. Then, methods for risk analysis and decision support are evaluated. Finally, the results are compiled into a prioritized innovation roadmap that is validated together with the industry partners.
