Important results from the project

The project GAINFUL aimed to develop a new type of compact system for measuring gases in packaging, such as pharmaceutical and food packaging, using spectroscopy with a new type of laser and innovative laser platform. The focus of the project was size and price of components and instrument. New components have been developed in the project as well as a compact measuring instrument or system that can be used both on and at production lines for quality control of packaging, such as food and pharmaceutical packages.

Expected long term effects

The outcome of GAINFUL project is that three partners have collectively advanced the technology of laser spectroscopy for gas measurement, known as TDLAS, into a new dimension and application area. This opens up for new applications and the establishment of this technology into new industries. The project has resulted in each partner having components or instruments that are now to be industrialized and commercialized.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out in close collaboration with the partners, where each partner has been responsible for their respective part. The development has taken place in close dialogue with the market and potential customers to ensure that the developed concept, components, and product meet the market´s needs and requirements. The development has proceeded in iterative steps and culminated in pilot installations. Close monitoring has taken place throughout the project, and annual meetings have been conducted.
