Call Future prototypes for a sustainable forest value chain

Purpose and goal

Future Wood is a speculative future prototype depicting a sustainable forestry company in the year 2050. Through a fictional annual report, the project aims to showcase how biointelligent forestry, circular processes, and sustainable practices can strengthen forest resilience and contribute to climate goals. The goal is to share the prototype with industrial stakeholders and stimulate discussion around future sustainable business models to shift the forest value chain in a sustainable direction.

Expected effects and result

Showcase concrete examples of new sustainable business models and innovations that meet future legal requirements and conditions for the forestry industry. Through a fictional annual report, we demonstrate how a biointelligent forestry can strengthen forest resilience and carbon storage, reduce emissions, and act as a driving force in the transition needed to achieve climate and environmental goal 15 in the SDGs.

Planned approach and implementation

A central part is to present the concept and include representatives from across the forestry sector, including system experts, researchers, biologists, forestry companies, architects, product designers, and individuals with knowledge of Sámi forest stewardship. The familiar format of the annual report makes it easy to distribute and communicate—not only to industrial actors within the forest value chain, but also to decision-makers, researchers, non-profit organizations, and innovators.
