Important results from the project

The prototype Beyond Wood began with a future scenario where ecosystems guide decision-making. In June, we launched a fictional 2050 annual report during a webinar with panelists from the forest value chain. They discussed the ecological, social, and economic benefits of regenerative forestry. Beyond Wood aims to inspire a new forest logic—valuing forests not just for what can be harvested, but for all the vital services it provides.

Expected long term effects

We created the fictional company Beyond Wood with the belief that forests are living ecosystems, not just resources. With a positive vision rooted in science and business, we aim to inspire a more biointelligent, sustainable, circular, social, and gender-equal forestry in Sweden. Beyond Wood is only the beginning—we hope to grow our ideas with partners who want to lead the way in sustainable forestry.

Approach and implementation

Together with Sweden’s top sustainable forestry experts, we developed a future prototype: an annual report from a fictional biointelligent forestry company set in 2050. Launched in June via webinar and panel, the report was digitally shared with over 100 participants. The project sparked dialogue, curiosity, and highlighted potential transformation paths for the forest sector—aligned with Vinnova’s vision for sustainable social development.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
