Important results from the project

The project has achieved the set objectives. Insights was gained for both understanding parameters affecting user experience and protecting passengers with support of AI or contact with the traffic tower. Possible next steps have been identified. The ability to "see around corners" using infrastructure sensors has been tested and values linked to a more efficient and safe transport system have been identified. Centralized intelligence combined with robust connectivity is a key prerequisite.

Expected long term effects

The project shows the opportunities but also the challenges of autonomous transportation. How autonomous transport solutions are introduced can affect perceived safety and social acceptance for both operators and citizens. Furthermore, the level of innovation is promoted by the project´s composition with different perspectives, which can inspire similar future project. A nuanced picture of critical conditions makes it easier to plan and implement a cost-effective solution.

Approach and implementation

The project is based on parallel development of technical solutions in several domains, combination of these, testing and evaluating the solutions. As a framework, the project has created testbeds to evaluate technical solutions and user experience. The process is iterative for faster development. By inviting the public, the project has been able to share knowledge during the project and collect feedback. The project has kept to schedule despite the addition and replacement of project partners.
