Purpose and goal
The project advances thermo-bonded nonwoven technologies by optimising the use of binder fibres combined with recycled textile and glass fibre waste, creating resource-efficient products for applications in workwear, apparel, interiors and construction. Key activities are refining binder fibres and process selection, prototyping and testing new nonwoven materials, conducting lifecycle and business case assessments, and developing a roadmap for circular industrialisation and market introduction.
Expected effects and result
The project will develop and pilot at least 3 material concepts using secondary raw materials. Each concept will be evaluated for its ability to achieve up to 50% reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and energy use, supported by lifecycle assessments and ensuring compliance with industry standards and certifications. The project will also make 3 sector-specific business cases and create a roadmap for circular industrialisation, addressing market entry, policy, infrastructure, and logistics.
Planned approach and implementation
Engaging partners across the value chain enables technical, logistical and regulatory focus for scaling circular solutions. They contribute with expertise in innovation, materials, manufacturing, logistics and sustainability. Cross-sector collaboration is central and will be achieved through co-creation activities. Environmental performance will be benchmarked against current solutions and results will be shared within the project and through public events and knowledge dissemination activities.
