Purpose and goal
The overarching goal was to develop techniques for a combined edible mushroom and biofuel production using forest residues. With this pilot study, we have successfully validated some necessary parameters of the key process, paving a way to further development of the innovation.
Expected results and effects
Major results show that our key technology can be adopted to birch wood and fibre rejects substrates for edible mushrooms, e.g. oyster mushroom production. The results come mostly from the experiment that was carried out in Swedish mushroom industrial environment, suggesting the technology readiness level (TRL) is lifted from 4 to 5, as we aimed for. Thus a solid fundament for the subproject is well formed.
Planned approach and implementation
The experiments were concucted well according to the original design and will have a big effect on further development of the innovation.
