Call | A new recipe for the food system - building innovation platforms for a sustainable food system |
Purpose and goal
In Biotech Heights, we aim to accelerate the development of new fermented food into a established global food category, increasing the worldwide food production. We seek to create new food value chains while optimizing the value of side streams. In Biotech Heights, stakeholders across the entire system will collaborate and experiment to make the technology accessible and useful. This involves elevating knowledge throughout the value chain, developing new talents, and integrating the new food into people´s daily lives.
Expected effects and result
The result of the work in Biotech Heights is that new fermented food replaces less sustainably produced food, thus contributing to reduced methane and carbon dioxide emissions. Global food production can increase without expanding arable land providing greater food access for more people. It will also contribute to reduced food waste by connecting the food value chain with other value chains, and creating more business opportunities for future farmers.
Planned approach and implementation
In Biotech Heights, we will engage individuals and organizations from various systemic perspectives. We will convene the ecosystem three times during the first stage, iterating towards a desirable future and identifying the efforts and knowledge needed to achieve it. We will also work to ensure that individuals and organizations in the ecosystem share resources to ensure mutual benefit and learning. Biotech Heights is a long-term collaboration that will expand with more and more participants over time and a physical place well connected to international ecosystems.
