Purpose and goal

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** This project aims to increase the degree of automation in the flight arrival process at the airports by developing and implementing an AI-based system for automated inspections of the staging areas using LiDAR and RaDAR sensors. In this way, it reduces the climate footprint of aviation on the ground while addressing the privacy and GDPR challenges by avoiding the possibility of identification and tracking of people

Expected effects and result

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** This project aims to digitize the early steps of the arrival process and solve the AI-related problems that cameras pose in the airport environment by using other sensors such as long-range LiDAR and RaDAR. Sensors which do not have the ability to identify people. They are also expected to work better, especially in bad weather conditions, such as dense fog. Expected results of such a system at an airport are reduced climate impact through shorter taxi times, increased safety and more efficient and shorter turnaround times for the flight.

Planned approach and implementation

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The project is planned to last for 26 months from November 2023 until December 2025. The project is divided into 5 work packages including feasibility study and demonstration at Landvetter airport. The project will be implemented as a collaboration between ADB Safegate Sweden AB and Swedavia AB and where Landvetter Airport will be the location for implementation and testing.
