Important results from the project

The pilot study aimed to investigate whether a digital solution for guidance inside the region´s hospitals can make it easier for patients, relatives and staff to find their way inside hospitals, thus reducing the number of late or missed care visits. The goal was to develop a pilot version of a digital navigation solution, to help and guide patients, visitors and staff to find their way and test it at a hospital within Region Stockholm. Through interviews with different patient groups it has become clear that there is a desire for a tool that makes it easier to fnavigate inside the hospitals.

Expected long term effects

The function, user-friendliness and accessibility of the navigation tool have been evaluated and there are still a number of challenges that need to be overcome. The biggest identified challenges for further development of this type of tool are: Development of dynamic maps with so-called blue-dot technology that works for indoor navigation and positioning inside hospitals. To access patient data and calls via integration with various existing IT systems. To create a user interface with just the right amount of information that works for all users.

Approach and implementation

In the study, a test version of a navigation tool has been developed with the help of a private company and students from Chalmers. During the development, interviews were conducted, including a test group of representatives from Funktionsrätt Stockholm, Synskadades Riksförbund Stockholm Gotland and DHR. The group has participated in tests of the navigation tool at Danderyd Hospital. Due to pandemic restrictions and a ban on visits to the hospital, tests could not be made in the desired extent. Based on test results, some adjustments have been made and a final report has been produced.
