Purpose and goal
The global pandemic clearly showed that a sustainable society requires that biotech innovations can reach the market quickly. The purpose of the project is to study how relationships between biotech companies. financial actors and authorities influence the commercialization of biotechnological innovations. The project uses a unique and proprietary database of the total population of biotechnology companies in Sweden and their partners in the period 2004-2020. The goal is to find viable financial solutions and financiers for biotech commercialization.
Expected effects and result
The project will show which types of financial and government relations have the greatest effect on the commercialization of biotechnology innovations. The project can also show why and when these relationships have the greatest impact, and thus show the role of financiers in different development periods during commercialization. Types of successful financing solutions can also be identified. The result can lead to recommendations on how financial solutions can be handled in the future by biotechnology companies, financiers and authorities.
Planned approach and implementation
We will begin by updating the database with the latest financial and regulatory events and partners. To find the most significant relationships with different partners and at different times in the commercialization process, data will be analyzed with network and regression analysis. We will study both domestic and international relations and partners, as well as types of financing. Preliminary and final results will be discussed with our industry partners and then disseminated to a larger audience both in academia and the general society .
