Important results from the project
The project work has largely met the goals set in the project application and the results are of great value for the development of more robust manufacturing processes based on LMDp (Laser Metal Deposition powder) of Ti6Al4V components for applications in the aerospace industry.
Expected long term effects
The analysis and testing methodology developed in the present project has proven to be valuable for being able to relatively quickly characterize different types of powders as well as LMDp manufactured samples of these powders and demonstrate the relationship between powder properties, process parameters and resulting properties of LMDp manufactured material.
Approach and implementation
The plan was well executed and resulted in more results than expected from the beginning. This has resulted in increased knowledge at GKN as well as succeeded in better joint collaboration with Dalarna university. The one year project had some delays due to summer holidays and christmas holidays , but the extension granted by vinnova for 2 months help achieve all the goals as planned . The collaboration was very well received both at the university and at GKN.
