Important results from the project
The purpose of the feasibility study was to develop a method for obtaining robust cycle solutions in urban environments. The method is being developed together with the realization of 4 cycle infrastructure measures in Södermalm, Stockholm. The purpose to make Pilotplats Cykel available for market actors to evaluate cycle-related innovations in concrete urban environments is long-term and beyond the scope of a pre-study. The goal to develop a plan for implementation has been reached.
Expected long term effects
The pre-study resulted in a plan for implementation that is anchored within the City of Stockholm. The city earmarked 3+3 MSEK for the Traffic Department´s involvement in the project in 201415, when 4 cycle infrastructure measures will be carried out and evaluated. This will yield better knowledge and cost-effective investments in cycling measures. The result in terms of lower threshold for market actors to test the viability of their cycling-related concepts cannot be evaluated at this point.
Approach and implementation
The study consisted of 4 WPs: 1. Interviews with stakeholders revealed a need and a considerable interest in a test bed for cycle innovation. 2. A report for selection of locality and measures, including economic estimates and evaluation needs, was developed. 3. A full day including a seminar on user-involvement in evaluation and a stakeholder workshop with 40 participants concerning four bicycle measures. 4. A plan for implementation was realized and submitted to Vinnova as a B-application.
