Important results from the project

FarmPharma develops an innovative antiviral and antimicrobial treatment with prophylactic and therapeutic effect for cattle based on the body´s own ability to activate the immune system against infections. The aim of this project was to purify 9 bovine interferons that we expressed at Testa Center, to be able to use them in further preclinical development. In order to do this, FarmPharma have established a cooperation with Karolinska Institutet where this step was performed.

Expected long term effects

We managed to purify 6 interferons of 9, one of the other 3 appeared to be unstable, and the remaining two interferons that we initially tried to express at Testa Center turned out to be not expressed at any tested conditions. Nevertheless, all interferons most important to FarmPharma have been purified.

Approach and implementation

The activity of 6 already purified interferons will be investigated in vitro for the protection bovine cells against bovine pathogens, and the most promising interferons will be selected as leading candidates in our product.
