Important results from the project

The project has created conditions for establishing a system demonstrator for an environmentally friendly transport hub in Port of Umeå and to support the Umeå-Vasas Green Corridor. The project has identified eligibility requirements of the port as a green node and how CO2 emissions can be made transparent for those who act in, and visit, Umeå´s port. The project has been carried out by Kvarken ports Umeå, RISE, Norra Timber, Kalmar, Wasaline and Green Cargo, where RISE has led the project.

Expected long term effects

The project has successfully positioned Umeå Hamn as an innovative partner. Including port operations as a basis in how CO2 emissions are calculated accelerates the green transition away from fossil fuels. Efforts made in the implementation project are also intended to inspire other Swedish ports, and also other types of transport nodes, in their efforts to make their climate footprint transparent to stakeholders and society.

Approach and implementation

The project has been conducted through a series of workshops (both physical and digital), supplemented by individual efforts, where the project´s actors have collaborated to achieve the project´s results. By taking into account current practices for calculating CO2 emissions, a new model has been proposed to capture ports´ CO2 emissions (= an ontology). Through collaboration with the project´s actors, incentives for sharing CO2 data have also been able to be addressed.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
