Project duration June 2015 - November 2015
Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme for Metallic material

Purpose and goal

To evaluate if a summer school will spread the knowledge and interest of the Industry in the region Summer School NSCAS 2015 went well in terms of both planning and scientific / technical content of all parties. New contacts for research and development were created, as well as increased awareness of the region´s employment opportunities and good quality of life for highly educated engineers. The industry´s interest in a continuation is high, and that represents a strong base for the two continuous years of evaluation, where the school is planned for 2 weeks per year.

Results and expected effects

Nine international graduate students, including three women, visited five companies that presented their operations and development through lectures, discussions and guidance on the development laboratories and productions. All the students met the criteria and level of knowledge after the NSCAS week. The message of an attractive region for engineers was successful! The evaluation provided 4.6 of 5 for the week as a whole. See attached report.

Approach and implementation

The program included many different activities to provide best possible picture of the participating companies and enabled students to display their research projects. The evaluation shows that the program was a little too dense and that more time should be devoted to view the history of the iron industry in the region, and information about working and livingconditions in the region and Sweden. The technical / scientific contents will be even better with more time for deeper scientific sessions and a clearified match between each student and interested companies for the sessions.
