Important results from the project
This project has objective to demonstrate Cellevate´s cellulose-based nanomaterials in cell culture applications. The project has also had the objective of expanding Cellevate´s product portfolio. The project has taken steps in a positive direction from both a scientific and commercial perspective, where the materials have been shown to support cell viability, and constitute a sustainable alternative to today´s plastic materials. However, further evaluation to optimize the materials is required before they are considered to have reached TRL7 or MRL3.
Expected long term effects
The materials have taken important steps forward in cell culture applications, and their use has been demonstrated in a relevant environment. A TRL-level of 6 can therefore be considered achieved. However, more comprehensive validation remains before they can be considered ready for full-scale commercialization, both with respect to MRL and SRL.
Approach and implementation
Important fundamental scientific data is generated, but work remains before full validation is achieved. The market potential for the materials has been analyzed in meetings with customers. Great interest has been expressed for participants in further validation and involvement in a future commercialization, and a new project been started together with a prominent Indian company for use in vaccine development. From a sustainability point of view, cellulose has been evaluated, but a complete analysis is impossible to carry out before the scientific evaluation is completed.
