Purpose and goal
This MSc thesis work is focused to evaluate an optical oscillator in a real industrial radio testbed. The work will contribute to the future for microwave- and sub-THz radios, with ultralow phase noise, which are required to enable higher capacity, and stability in wireless networks.
Expected effects and result
The work is expected to show a frequency generation with exceptional good phase noise.
Planned approach and implementation
Design and simulate photonics-based 50GHz RF-generation. Integrate bench-mounted lasers, microcavity resonators and photodiodes on a bread board with interface to RF-circuits. Design low-noise driver amplifiers, filters and RF-divider circuits (1/N division, e.g., N=4). Realize the RF divider design on PCB ready for integration with the optical source. Measure performance using a phase noise analyzer. Evaluate in a real radio testbed with the conventional RF source replaced. Write report.
