Call Business models and solutions for sustainable battery applications

Purpose and goal

EV2X Next aims to develop and validate a scalable business model for using electric van batteries as an energy resource across property portfolios. Based on Einar Mattsson´s Kia vans, it combines building operations, charging and flexibility services while safeguarding operational mobility needs. The goal is a customer-oriented offering with clear roles, agreements and financial incentives that bridges the gap between V2X technology maturity and commercial deployment.

Expected effects and result

The project will deliver a business model prototype, solution design and economic calculations, as well as a basis for continued piloting and scaling up. In the long term, the solution is expected to reduce property power peaks, increase self-use of solar power and generate revenue from balancing services. Better use of existing vehicle batteries will contribute to increased resource efficiency, strengthened resilience in the energy system, faster electrification and a more flexible power system

Planned approach and implementation

Sustainable Innovation coordinates the project with Kia, Vattenfall, Einar Mattsson and KTH. Three phases cover baseline analysis, development and validation of the business model and solution design, and pilot preparation and scaling plans. Interviews, partner workshops, scenario analyses and digital solution development draw on building and vehicle data. Customer value, economics and operational feasibility are assessed, with results shared with industry stakeholders and decision-makers.
