Important results from the project
The aim of the project were to develop novel blood based analysis methods for cancer diagnostics, early detection of cancer and recurrence, as well as identifying alterations and mutation in oncogenes in order to individualize and personalize the therapy according to the patient needs.
Expected long term effects
The project conditions have changed with the rapid developments in the ´liquid biopsy´ field and with improved sequencing technologies. Early, we started with a small panel of genetic alterations, now we have developed a cloud based whole transcriptome (thromboSEQ) platform, where one analysis hold the information to all our initial questions and based on the results from the analysis we can say if a patient have; cancer/no cancer; what kind of cancer; and what kind of alterations that drivers the cancer.
Approach and implementation
Our platform is built on Illuminas sequencing machines, which makes it easy to implement into clinical laboratory routine work. The results from this study has been presented at the AACR and ASCO conferences this year (2015), and the thromboSEQ platform is under review for publication. With the help from the Eurostars and Vinnova funds the speed of the development has been accelerated and we have now initiated co-development plans with the industry.
