Important results from the project

The purpose of the project is to develop an electrical circuit breaker for 72 kV which is based on vacuum switch technology and which does not contain any gas for insulation. The project has developed the electromechanics for the operation of the switch elements, the steel structure and a solid inner insulation that replaces environmentally hazardous insulation gases. In most cases sulfur hexafluoride gas. We have gained new and valuable knowledge about mechanical operating systems for vacuum breakers elements and solid insulation materials. The project is satisfied with the result.

Expected long term effects

The project´s results have been in line with expectations. The project has succeeded in developing a solid insulated electric vacuum circuit breaker without environmentally hazardous insulation materials. The results and the knowledge are very valuable for the company´s future development in an international market. When the product is industrialized, it will have the conditions to generate good income for the company. We also have hopes of being able to sell the product to various railway companies. During the autumn, we will have to replace the Russian-made exterior insulators.

Approach and implementation

Planning and implementation has taken place according to the project plan. The project started by doing a literature study to investigate existing techniques, theories and possible patents. The result is in the project´s expectations. In several APs, the project has required many more working hours from our staff. It has proved very difficult to find competent consultants in the field. The participants have gained new and important knowledge that helps the company to grow in the niche and stimulated the company´s innovative capacity to see different ways out of the same problem.
