Purpose and goal
A sharing lifestyle with a 30% lower utilization of resources and over time, through increased cooperation and gender equality, better access to services and material resources. Our vision is to create living environments by enabling residents to share space, objects and services in the local community, thereby strengthening their well-being and involvement in the making of an ecologically sustainable and fair world. Elastic Homes address the challenge of Objective 11 in Agenda 2030; our human right to a dwelling, in a way that reduces social gaps as well as strains on the ecosystem.
Expected results and effects
More committed actors who understand the concrete possibilities in creating resource-efficient and socially sustainable shared housing. Identifying opportunities vs. obstacles when introducing a new, more integrated form of housing within the framework of today’s regulations. Buildable prototypes with innovative technical and spatial solutions coupled with pioneering social institutions who manage common areas and enable sharing. Services and products which can unlock unused capacity and provide increased elasticity in both new construction and facility management.
Planned approach and implementation
Elastic Homes is a method where resources connected to the dwelling are unlocked to allow them being shared and utilized more efficiently. This regards both spaces, services, equipment, time and knowledge. The implementation of the project is based on a creative dialogue involving residents, property managers, experts and system owners with an aim to move past tradiditonal housing norms. It is an innovative way of working which, through a combination of needs analysis, scenario planning and design, allow for all actors to contribute. Subsequently the method will be applied to 3 cases.
