Call Needs-driven defense innovation in the Transparent Battlefield

Purpose and goal

The aim is to radically improve the capabilities for critical drone missions in the transparent battlefield where GNSS and communication are disrupted by the adversary, and by attempting to make the drone more invisible by operating in darkness and at low altitude. The aim is to demonstrate and validate our solution for positioning and immediate target designation from drone video without GNSS support, including using data from the Ukrainian battlefield.

Expected effects and result

The result is expected to be a solution that can be used operationally in the field. By demonstrating the benefits of the solution, a deeper business collaboration with the defense industry can be established and the solution can be included in larger military systems. In the long run, this would mean safer navigation and increased capabilities for drones in military applications.

Planned approach and implementation

Cube Sqared is developing a sensor fusion that combines different types of input data in real time. By this, an optimized navigation solution is developed. The implementation is done on an Jetson AGX. I-Conics´s solution for real-time 3D is further developed and supplemented with an interface for Synclair´s camera system. A user interface is developed for positioning objects. The software is continuously tested in consultation with Farsight Vision in Ukraine to simulate real-world scenarios.
