Funding from Vinnova SEK 400 000
Project duration January 2026 - September 2026
Status Ongoing
Venture Global cooperation 2025
Call Planning grant for international proposal 2025

Purpose and goal

The planning project prepares an EU application to HORIZON-MISS-2026-03-OCEAN-05: Regional (sea-basin) components of the EU Digital Twin Ocean, coordinated by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. The objective is to establish a regional component of the EU Digital Twin Ocean (EDITO) for the Baltic and North Sea basin, linking models of atmospheric, terrestrial, and marine processes into a digital decision-support system for marine spatial planning, climate adaptation, and blue growth.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to result in a complete and competitive Horizon Europe proposal and an established international consortium. It will deliver a clear technical and organisational plan for a regional Digital Twin Ocean for the Baltic and North Sea, including defined case study areas and use cases. The project strengthens Sweden’s position in the EU EDITO initiative and lays the foundation for future collaboration and innovation.

Planned approach and implementation

The planning project will be implemented through a structured work plan with clearly defined work packages focusing on consortium building, technical planning and proposal development. The work includes dialogue with Swedish and European partners, development of the technical architecture and identification of case study areas. The project is led by IVL and carried out in close collaboration with research organisations, authorities and regional stakeholders.
