Purpose and goal

To develop a sustainable biometric smart card with a non-lithium-based energy storage solution (S-Power/S-Energy) for identification, authentication and authorization - with minimal environmental impact! The card contains a unique, rechargeable power module for efficient energy management, compatible with existing and upcoming access control systems. Sustainability and cost-effectiveness demonstrated through customer pilots. The project drives the development of green access technologies.

Expected effects and result

To solve sustainability and energy issues in active smart cards through the world´s first fully sustainable, lithium-free energy solution adapted for biometric applications. The solution addresses security and environmental impact throughout the product´s life. It also enables phase-out of battery-dependent cards and creates a sustainable platform for future growth in access control. The project also aims to drive the development and increase the use of environmentally friendly materials.

Planned approach and implementation

The project objectives will be achieved through a collaborative project between Ligna Energy (power unit) and TrustSEC (card, security), through the following work packages (WP): ● WP1 - Project management, communication, dissemination, and exploitation ● WP2 - Requirements and solution concept ● WP3 - Sustainable bio smart card design ● WP4 - Security software adaptation ● WP5 - Card manufacturing design ● WP6 - Prototype of card ● WP7 - Customer solution test and validation
