Important results from the project
Today, thread insert are assembled either fully automated with very complex and expensive equipment or manually with highly repetitive work steps resulting in high risks of work-related strain injuries. Within the project, we have together developed a concept for assembling thread insert with collaborative robots (cobots) with the goal of creating a more cost-effective automated assembly that qualifies in between the currently existing variants as described above.
Expected long term effects
The product development that has taken place within the project will form the basis for commercial products in the area. The collaborations that have been initiated will form the basis for our further work, not only within automated assembly of thread insert , but we see synergies in similar areas such as automated screw assembly.
Approach and implementation
The project was a collaboration between Cobotech and the Danish company Spin Robotics. By clearly planning our activities and responsibilities before the project started and by holding regular meetings to discuss any changes in activities, the project has developed as planned. The schedule could be followed and the collaboration has worked well, despite the physical distance between our two companies.
