Important results from the project
The project objectives were met and several valuable results were added. A prototype in collaboration with GANNI demonstrated the practical use of the material. The interdisciplinary collaboration provided new insights and skills. The project strengthened the research environment for bio-based materials and laid the foundation for future collaborations in the bioeconomy.
Expected long term effects
Sustainable textile production: By replacing animal leather and fossil plastic materials in the fashion industry, ModernTex is expected to contribute to significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduced use of harmful chemicals.
Circular economy: The material´s full recyclability enables a closed-loop process where end-of-life products can be converted into new raw materials. This supports the development of a circular bioeconomy and minimizes waste.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out according to plan with a clear division of labor. Modern Synthesis developed the production technology, Dimpora added waterproof properties, Lund University developed the recycling process, and VTT evaluated materials and costs. The work was carried out in phases with prototypes, scale-up and tests. Regular meetings ensured coordination and goal achievement.
