Important results from the project
The purpose of the project has been to replace lead-based soldering in solar cell modules with a conductive adhesive. The conductive adhesive, which has a lower curing temperature than traditional soldering temperature, can also enable the joining of future solar cell technologies that are more sensitive to higher temperatures during manufacture.
Expected long term effects
Reliability tests and performance measurements were performed on full-scale modules made with solar cells that were joined with conductive adhesives. These tests showed comparable or in some cases better results than solar modules made with traditional soldering.
Approach and implementation
RSES participation has been in a collaborative project with the companies Conpart and Mosaic Solutions (both in Norway). Our task in the project was to manufacture and test photovoltaic modules manufactured using an adhesive made conductive with spherical particles developed by Conpart. Conpart has also been the project leader in the project. To verify the concept, ensure reliability and performance tests have been performed in climate chambers, such as temperature cycling and humidity tests. Performance has been checked by measuring I-V´s characteristics and series resistance.
