Important results from the project
Acconeer successfully completed its project goals, including requirement, design, manufacturing, and validation of a prototype of its next generation radar sensor. In addition, Acconeer supplied software, board, and tools to Sleepiz. GU prepared the clinical study, including identifying potential participants, setting up the necessary technology for assessing sleep, respiration, body position, and cardiac function. The study was however not granted due to administrative reasons.
Expected long term effects
This project will have a major impact on the future of Acconeer, as it has been an integral part in the decision to bring its next generation sensor to the market and expanding into use cases in automotive, smart home, and healthcare. The continued development of the sensor technology holds significant potential for medical applications, particularly in respiratory and cardiovascular monitoring during sleep, as well as in specific daytime clinical settings.
Approach and implementation
The medical device incorporating the new radar sensor was ultimately developed by Sleepiz and underwent performance evaluation in a bench test environment at their facilities. GU analyzed the resulting data, which indicated improved sensor performance, supporting its suitability for proof-of-concept testing in a clinical setting at GU. The Swedish Ethical Review Authority approval was not granted within the project time frame.
