Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to increase accessibility to the emergency service so that all citizens can reach the emergency service in an equal way and to provide the emergency service with improved tools to handle emergencies. By offering text, audio, and video in communication with the emergency service, an inclusive solution was offered to all citizens, including citizens with disabilities. Thanks to the citizen being able to share the exact position and other important data, the emergency service got a better overview and was able to handle the emergency situation efficiently.
Expected long term effects
The project succeeded in creating a system with support for multimedia calls and other Internet technologies to improve the availability of emergency services for people with disabilities and provide emergency services with better tools for dealing with emergencies. Omnitor´s main result was the emergency app for citizens. AIMES increased the awareness of the emergency services about the needs of people with disabilities and demonstrated that it is possible to build an effective solution with new features for the emergency service based on European standards.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out iteratively together with two technical European project partners. Although COVID-19 was a challenge as it made it difficult to meet with end-users, which delayed some activities, the project was carried out as planned in two years with successful results. All deliverables were completed within the project period and all milestones were met. In the project, three workshops and three pilots were carried out as planned, as well as several small demonstrations to receive feedback and learn from the market.
