Purpose and goal
ANTI-T1D aims to evaluate AVS-007, a drug candidate designed to restore immunological tolerance to insulin-producing beta cells. By counteracting the autoreactive immune response driving type 1 diabetes, the project seeks to investigate the compound’s potential to prevent or slow disease progression. The project includes the establishment and validation of preclinical models and the evaluation of efficacy, initial tolerability and safety.
Expected effects and result
The project is expected to establish and validate preclinical models of type 1 diabetes and generate knowledge about AVS-007’s ability to modulate the disease-driving autoimmune response. The aim is to investigate whether treatment can promote immunological tolerance and preserve beta-cell function. The results will provide a basis for further development of the drug candidate and future regulatory and clinical studies.
Planned approach and implementation
The project involves establishing and optimising preclinical models of type 1 diabetes, followed by evaluation of AVS-007 in relevant models, including T1D and HLA-DR4 transgenic mice. The HLA-DR4 model enables the investigation of proinsulin-specific immune responses in a context relevant to the human immune system. The studies will assess disease-related immune responses, treatment efficacy, and initial tolerability and safety. The results will guide further development.
