Purpose and goal
BIOSENSE aims to transform sustainable agriculture by developing the world’s first fully biodegradable sensing system. Utilizing innovative printed silicon technology, we integrate soil moisture and stomatal conductance monitoring. The goal is to reduce agricultural water usage by up to 40% and completely eliminate electronic waste through a "plant-and-forget" model that supports the future of precision farming.
Expected effects and result
The project is expected to deliver a commercial sensor solution with a 73% lower environmental footprint than current alternatives. By providing real-time data without the need for costly sensor retrieval, BIOSENSE creates significant economic benefits for farmers. The impact will be a strengthened Swedish AgTech innovation sector and a concrete contribution to global food security and climate adaptation.
Planned approach and implementation
Implementation is carried out through an international collaboration between MizuSense (Netherlands) and MG Sustainable Engineering (Sweden). Over 24 months, the work focuses on silicon sensor design (WP2), system integration and field testing in the Swedish climate (WP3), and market preparation (WP4). This ensures the technology is validated in real-world conditions and reaches the market within 18 months post-project.
