Important results from the project
An early design space exploration (DSE) methodology was evaluated in Saab´s industrial practice as well as with automotive partners from Germany. Model transformations to ensure interoperability between Rubus Component Model, EAST-ADL, and the APP4MC system model are now integrated into the Rubus Tool Suite. Methods to enable iterative development and continuous deployment for ADS an open-source library for heterogeneous digital design were released. Traceability management for iterative development of safety-critical systems was improved.
Expected long term effects
The Swedish consortium developed a number of open source solutions for problems in heterogeneous system design, including the design space exploration tool IDeSyDe, the traceability management tool Eclipse Capra and a library for heterogeneous digital design targeting FPGAs. In addition, Arcticus improved their product Rubus Tool Suite by making it more interoperable with existing languages in the automotive domain, creating value for their customers. Saab has been able to demonstrate the methodology for DSE, applied on a relevant use-case in an industrial avionics context.
Approach and implementation
The project setup utilized similarities in needs from automotive and avionic industry and put a focus on harmonising the industrial and academic view of different areas of heterogeneous system design. Recurring meetings and a shared web space allowed cooperation between partners that positively affected the research. The project setup with different phases supported the research and development of the different tools which also benefitted from the feedback of the industrial partners.
