Important results from the project

Digital Impact North, (DIN), is a digital innovation hub operating in North Sweden, established to strengthen the region as one of Europe´s leading regions for smart and sustainable societies, characterized by digitalisation that contributes to renewal and welfare. A consortium of regional actors, coordinated by Umeå University, has worked with and submitted a proposal to the EU, with the purpose to be appointed as one of around 200 European digital innovation hubs, and receive funding from the EU. The proposal was submitted on 22/2 2022.

Expected long term effects

As a European Digital Innovation Hub, DIN will be able to offer important services to small and medium-sized companies and also public sector organizations more quickly and in a coordinated manner. These services include analysis, development work, training initiatives, new methods and approaches, access to various networks, as well as opportunities to test technology and solutions before investing, and finally also help with funding.

Approach and implementation

The work involved a number of strong regional actors that together have submitted a proposal to get funding as a European Digital Innovation hub (EDIH). The project has been coordinated by Umeå University, other partners are Region Västerbotten, Umeå municipality, RISE, Uminova Innovation, Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet, Umeå Science Park and Akademi Norr. The project has been successful. In addition to submitting a proposal, the joint work has contributed to clarifying structures for cooperation and distribution of responsibilities between the participating parties.
