Important results from the project

Vinnova´s funding program Validering för tillämpning (VFT) is handled by the innovation offices at Swedish universities to accelerate the valorisation of knowledge assets stemming from academia. During the project period 20180101 20220630, 111 projects in verification phase were granted VFT1 funding to perform risk eliminating activities and 10 projects were granted VFT+ funding (of which 7 also were VFT1 projects). In total, 266 different VFT activities were granted (verification of market, technology, IP, feasibility, regulatory strategy and legal advice).

Expected long term effects

Since the VFT programme started in 2012, UU Innovation has granted 29 mSEK in VFT1 funding to more than 210 unique ideas. At the end of this project period these ideas had invoiced costs of in total 25 mSEk. Out of the 210, almost 100 projects have stared companies. In addition, a number of licensing deals of technologies and IP to external parties as well as sustainable implementations of innovative solutions have been made.

Approach and implementation

UU Innovation has a well-functioning process to identify, evaluate and develop innovative ideas, where the VFT funding constitutes a critical component. Application, performance and evaluation of VFT funded activities are made in discussion with our business and IP advisors. Representatives from UIC and UU Invest AB are part of the VFT decision board and contributes with valuable perspectives. National meetings to exchange experiences between innovation offices are central to maintain quality and continuously develop our work.
